ਕਿਆ ਤੂ ਸੋਇਆ; ਜਾਗੁ ਇਆਨਾ ॥
Why are you asleep? Wake up, you ignorant fool!
ਤੈ ਜੀਵਨੁ ਜਗਿ; ਸਚੁ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
You believe that your life in the world is true. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਨਿ ਜੀਉ ਦੀਆ; ਸੁ ਰਿਜਕੁ ਅੰਬਰਾਵੈ ॥
The One who gave you life shall also provide you with nourishment.
ਸਭ ਘਟ ਭੀਤਰਿ; ਹਾਟੁ ਚਲਾਵੈ ॥
In each and every heart, He runs His shop.
ਕਰਿ ਬੰਦਿਗੀ; ਛਾਡਿ ਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
Meditate on the Lord, and renounce your egotism and self-conceit.
ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮੑਾਰਿ ਸਵੇਰਾ ॥੨॥
Within your heart, contemplate the Naam, the Name of the Lord, sometime. ||2||
ਜਨਮੁ ਸਿਰਾਨੋ; ਪੰਥੁ. ਨ ਸਵਾਰਾ ॥
Your life has passed away, but you have not arranged your path.
ਸਾਂਝ ਪਰੀ; ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਅੰਧਿਆਰਾ ॥
Evening has set in, and soon there will be darkness on all sides.
ਕਹਿ ਰਵਿਦਾਸ; ਨਿਦਾਨਿ ਦਿਵਾਨੇ ॥
Says Ravi Daas, O ignorant mad-man,
ਚੇਤਸਿ ਨਾਹੀ; ਦੁਨੀਆ ਫਨ ਖਾਨੇ ॥੩॥੨॥
don't you realize, that this world is the house of death?! ||3||2||
ਸੂਹੀ ॥
Soohee:
ਊਚੇ ਮੰਦਰ; ਸਾਲ ਰਸੋਈ ॥
You may have lofty mansions, halls and kitchens.
ਏਕ ਘਰੀ ਫੁਨਿ ਰਹਨੁ. ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥
But you cannot stay in them, even for an instant, after death. ||1||
ਇਹੁ ਤਨੁ ਐਸਾ; ਜੈਸੇ ਘਾਸ ਕੀ ਟਾਟੀ ॥
This body is like a house of straw.
ਜਲਿ ਗਇਓ ਘਾਸੁ; ਰਲਿ ਗਇਓ ਮਾਟੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
When it is burnt, it mixes with dust. ||1||Pause||
ਭਾਈ ਬੰਧ; ਕੁਟੰਬ ਸਹੇਰਾ ॥
Even relatives, family and friends begin to say,
ਓਇ ਭੀ ਲਾਗੇ; ਕਾਢੁ ਸਵੇਰਾ ॥੨॥
"Take his body out, immediately!" ||2||
ਘਰ ਕੀ ਨਾਰਿ; ਉਰਹਿ ਤਨ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
And the wife of his house, who was so attached to his body and heart,
ਉਹ ਤਉ; ਭੂਤੁ ਭੂਤੁ ਕਰਿ ਭਾਗੀ ॥੩॥
runs away, crying out, "Ghost! Ghost!" ||3||
ਕਹਿ ਰਵਿਦਾਸ; ਸਭੈ ਜਗੁ ਲੂਟਿਆ ॥
Says Ravi Daas, the whole world has been plundered,
ਹਮ ਤਉ; ਏਕ ਰਾਮੁ ਕਹਿ ਛੂਟਿਆ ॥੪॥੩॥
but I have escaped, chanting the Name of the One Lord. ||4||3||
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ਰਾਗੁ ਸੂਹੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸੇਖ ਫਰੀਦ ਜੀ ਕੀ ॥
One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਤਪਿ ਤਪਿ ਲੁਹਿ ਲੁਹਿ; ਹਾਥ ਮਰੋਰਉ ॥
Burning and burning, writhing in pain, I wring my hands.
ਬਾਵਲਿ ਹੋਈ; ਸੋ ਸਹੁ ਲੋਰਉ ॥
I have gone insane, seeking my Husband Lord.
ਤੈ ਸਹਿ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ; ਕੀਆ ਰੋਸੁ ॥
O my Husband Lord, You are angry with me in Your Mind.
ਮੁਝੁ ਅਵਗਨ; ਸਹ. ਨਾਹੀ ਦੋਸੁ ॥੧॥
The fault is with me, and not with my Husband Lord. ||1||
ਤੈ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੀ; ਮੈ ਸਾਰ. ਨ ਜਾਨੀ ॥
O my Lord and Master, I do not know Your excellence and worth.
ਜੋਬਨੁ ਖੋਇ; ਪਾਛੈ ਪਛੁਤਾਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Having wasted my youth, now I come to regret and repent. ||1||Pause||
ਕਾਲੀ ਕੋਇਲ; ਤੂ ਕਿਤ ਗੁਨ ਕਾਲੀ ॥
O black bird, what qualities have made you black?
ਅਪਨੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਕੇ; ਹਉ ਬਿਰਹੈ ਜਾਲੀ ॥
"I have been burnt by separation from my Beloved."
ਪਿਰਹਿ ਬਿਹੂਨ; ਕਤਹਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
Without her Husband Lord, how can the soul-bride ever find peace?
ਜਾ ਹੋਇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ; ਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥੨॥
When He becomes merciful, then God unites us with Himself. ||2||
ਵਿਧਣ ਖੂਹੀ; ਮੁੰਧ ਇਕੇਲੀ ॥
The lonely soul-bride suffers in the pit of the world.
ਨਾ ਕੋ ਸਾਥੀ; ਨਾ ਕੋ ਬੇਲੀ ॥
She has no companions, and no friends.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ; ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਮੇਲੀ ॥
In His Mercy, God has united me with the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਜਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਦੇਖਾ; ਤਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਅਲਹੁ ਬੇਲੀ ॥੩॥
And when I look again, then I find God as my Helper. ||3||
ਵਾਟ ਹਮਾਰੀ; ਖਰੀ ਉਡੀਣੀ ॥
The path upon which I must walk is very depressing.
ਖੰਨਿਅਹੁ ਤਿਖੀ; ਬਹੁਤੁ ਪਿਈਣੀ ॥
It is sharper than a two-edged sword, and very narrow.
ਉਸੁ ਊਪਰਿ ਹੈ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
That is where my path lies.
ਸੇਖ ਫਰੀਦਾ; ਪੰਥੁ ਸਮੑਾਰਿ ਸਵੇਰਾ ॥੪॥੧॥
O Shaykh Fareed, think of that path early on. ||4||1||
ਸੂਹੀ ਲਲਿਤ ॥
Soohee, Lalit:
ਬੇੜਾ ਬੰਧਿ. ਨ ਸਕਿਓ; ਬੰਧਨ ਕੀ ਵੇਲਾ ॥
You were not able to make yourself a raft when you should have.
ਭਰਿ ਸਰਵਰੁ ਜਬ ਊਛਲੈ; ਤਬ ਤਰਣੁ ਦੁਹੇਲਾ ॥੧॥
When the ocean is churning and over-flowing, then it is very difficult to cross over it. ||1||
ਹਥੁ. ਨ ਲਾਇ ਕਸੁੰਭੜੈ; ਜਲਿ ਜਾਸੀ ਢੋਲਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Do not touch the safflower with your hands; its color will fade away, my dear. ||1||Pause||
ਇਕ ਆਪੀਨੑੈ ਪਤਲੀ; ਸਹ ਕੇਰੇ ਬੋਲਾ ॥
First, the bride herself is weak, and then, her Husband Lord's Order is hard to bear.
ਦੁਧਾ ਥਣੀ. ਨ ਆਵਈ; ਫਿਰਿ ਹੋਇ. ਨ ਮੇਲਾ ॥੨॥
Milk does not return to the breast; it will not be collected again. ||2||
ਕਹੈ ਫਰੀਦੁ. ਸਹੇਲੀਹੋ; ਸਹੁ ਅਲਾਏਸੀ ॥
Says Fareed, O my companions, when our Husband Lord calls,
ਹੰਸੁ ਚਲਸੀ ਡੁੰਮਣਾ; ਅਹਿ ਤਨੁ ਢੇਰੀ ਥੀਸੀ ॥੩॥੨॥
the soul departs, sad at heart, and this body returns to dust. ||3||2||
